Teenager Neary picks up Driver Award at opening round of Britcar

Team Abba Racing's Sam Neary* started the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship at Silverstone as he means to go on - and earned himself the title of Sunoco Driver of the Weekend from race organisers.

Richard and Sam Neary had a disappointing first race when the BMW M3 GTR was punted into the gravel and out of the race after less than one lap.

Because of this Sam began Race Two from the back of the grid. An excellent start though saw him overtake 13 cars on his first lap. Sam continued up the pecking order bring the car into the pits in P1 in class. It was a sterling effort from the team and superb driving from Sam.

Sam who is still only 16, has raced in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series and in various series last year as he worked to achieve his International race licence in October 2018. Britcar is his his first full championship.

Last year Richard and Sam ended last season on the podium achieving 3rd in class (SP3) in the BMW M3 GTR at the Creventic 12hr Endurance race in Spa.

* Sam Neary is currently studying at Loughborough College and is part of the Motorsport UK AASE programme.
