First British GT Podium For Team Abba Racing

Adam Christodoulou and Richard Neary claimed their first podium place finishing second in race two of the opening rounds of British GT at Oulton Park this weekend (21st/22nd April).

The Team ABBA Racing duo took second position in race two after Richard Neary held off Andrew Howard in the closing stages of the race.

Race One had seen the Team finish 7

th in the green and black Mercedes-AMG GT3 after being held up in the pit stop half way through the race.

Starting race two from his third-place qualifying position, Adam Christodoulou immediately jumped to second where he stayed until change over. Handing the car over to Richard Neary at 32 minutes he duly inherited the lead due to success penalties from race one for the leading Lamborghini Huracan of Phil Keen.

Neary fought off several challenges with the car’s bodywork testament to several light taps however a further track incident resulted in a second Safety Car in the 60-minute race. At half-distance the pack bunched up to make the drive for home a defensive one for Neary.

When racing resumed with 15 minutes remaining Neary initially rebuffed the chase of Sam De Haan but eventually fell foul to a back marker allowing De Haan to pass and Team Abba Racing to take second place on the podium.

Commenting after the race, Neary said: “We always felt we had a strong chance in the second race and we were right; I just wish my elbows had been a little wider so that we could have kept the Lamborghini at bay. That said we are delighted with the team’s performance today and our podium position.”

British GT returns to action on 18th and 19th May when Snetterton hosts two more hour-long sprint races.
